Hey YOU!The other night I had a dream in which I was being guided to delete my social media accounts. If you've been around awhile, you already know that I no longer create regular content for social media (I've thoroughly enjoyed having a static 9-grid Instagram feed for awhile now). The benefits no longer outweigh the disadvantages to supporting a company that protects horrible people and has done so much damage to our mental health and the safety of children. The very fact that I've struggled to permanently delete the app from my phone is telling. But my doom scrolling habit has been getting in the way of the vision I see for this world...⚡️ There are far too many companies that don't align with my values and yet I rely on their services to run my business. But last week I cancelled my Chat GPT subscription (when I heard about their support of ICE in the USA)...and Mark Z's apps...well, I think I can do without. In fact, as I started writing this email...I decided there was no time like the present and scrubbed many images of my kids from my personal page on the apps and DELETED them from my phone. Before I "left," I included a note on how to contact me of course...I liked the finality of doing that. ✌️ (Any millennials remember the last time you logged into MSN messenger for the last time!?). I'm not telling you this to make you feel bad about using social media in your marketing strategy AT ALL. You get to decide what is right for you! I decided long ago that I wanted to focus on long form content (like these emails and blog posts)...so social media lately has just been a distraction. 🫠 When I first made the decision to stop creating social media content, I saw the value in spending my time and energy on spaces that I "own" rather than "rent." Instead of being subject to algorithm changes and account instability (risk of visibility loss, hacking or account deactivation), I decided to invest my energy into my website and alternative spaces that feel right. Social media hasn't felt good for me, for a long time now... That's not to say there are no benefits to it... I am going to miss hanging out on Threads with like minded people...and I still like having my static grid for SEO and authority purposes... ...but I'm 110% ready to stop using an app that is making bad choices and billions off of other people's talent. It's not a perfect strategy, but I'm excited to see how this change affects both my personal and professional life! I'm NOT an off the grid kind of girl...but I think I can use some of the more "grey area" (*ahem* Google) tools for good...AND be choosey about what I spend my money on. What are your thoughts?! 👉 If a new brand is on your list this year, I’m booking projects for mid March. Payments plans available! Just email me back or book a discovery call here. |

Hey Reader, Sometimes I get confused... Not about the work that I do. Not about WHY I do the work I do, my offers or my vision for the future (I've got a killer brand strategy)! What I get confused about is how I want to promote my work to the world. As a branding expert, sometimes I feel like I also have to be a marketing expert. The two are not the same (I wrote an article about that here)! Every small business owner is in charge of figuring out what works best for them. You can have all...
Hey Reader, There comes a point in every business when you need to stop wearing all the hats (you totally look cute in all of them, but not when you are wearing them all at once!). It's not easy...especially if you're an eldest daughter perfectionist whose greatest fear is accepting help (like me)! But that's exactly what I did last week when I hired a new copywriter to upgrade my website. There's this feeling that creeps in before a big era of your business, where nothing is broken exactly,...
Hey YOU! My brand hasn't changed much since 2023. But I have. And twice a year, I make sure my photos catch up. Not because I need a new look. But because the version of me showing up in my photos needs to match the version of me showing up in my work. When I feel like my photos aren't representing the current version of me, I feel myself holding back instead of fully showing up. Sound familiar? I see you not sharing your website...not raising those rates...and NOT being visible to the very...
