The safe version of YOU has got to go! 💋

Hey Reader,

There comes a point in every business when you need to stop wearing all the hats (you totally look cute in all of them, but not when you are wearing them all at once!).

It's not easy...especially if you're an eldest daughter perfectionist whose greatest fear is accepting help (like me)!

But that's exactly what I did last week when I hired a new copywriter to upgrade my website.

There's this feeling that creeps in before a big era of your business, where nothing is broken exactly, but nothing quite fits anymore either.

Once I started pulling that thread, everything started shifting. A tweak to my brand strategy here, new photos there, and suddenly I was investing $5600 for four hours of copy work and feeling completely at peace with it.

My old copy wasn't bad! There were parts of it I still really liked and that felt true to me. But something about it made me feel like it was speaking to an earlier version of my business, before I had the portfolio, the clients, and the experience that I have now.

My old homepage headline read "Your brand should feel like YOU" and we changed it to "The safe version of you has got to go" (and clearly the safe version of my copy had to go, too!).

Feeling like you isn't enough. Your brand needs to be unapologetically, boldly, recognizably you...because that's what actually gets you noticed by the people who are already looking for exactly what you offer.

Turns out the only thing my business needed was permission.

And I wonder if that's where you are too.

I see it all the time...values-driven business owners who are good at what they do, who have put in the work, but whose brand still looks like it did in year one.

Not because they don't know it's time for a change, but because they haven't quite given themselves permission to evolve yet.

Investing in yourself can feel scary (it's okay to be a little scared), but holding yourself back from growth is scarier.

Ask yourself honestly...does your brand represent who you are right now, or who you were when you first launched?

The safe version is beige, bland and boring. It's what everyone else is doing. And you deserve so much more than that.

That's exactly why I created the Brand Intensive.

It's not a full brand package, it's a full honest look at where your brand is right now and what it needs to finally catch up to you.

Sometimes you just need someone to hold up the mirror.

Hey Reader, When I joined the coaching staff for my daughter's rep hockey team, I spent wayyyyy to many nights wondering if I should have said "yes" in the first place because I felt like I didn't fit in. It wasn't that the other coaches were bad guys (they aren't at all!). But they all seemed to have this effortless confidence...the kind that comes naturally when a space is predominantly centered around them. They stepped onto the ice assuming they belonged there and that they knew best. As...

Hey Reader, The most random thing happened the other day and I just had to tell you all about it because there is a lesson here for all my sensitive, people-pleasing friends. I was out with a friend (and fellow entrepreneur) when I noticed I had a voicemail. It said..."Oh, hi Emily, this is *redacted name*. If you can text that would be better. Otherwise, you can call. *redacted phone number* Uh, I have some questions. Thank you." At first I figured it was spam. But when I looked the number...

Hey Reader, You know that voice that shows up a few weeks after you launch something new? After all the "fun" of creating, designing, and writing about your new thing is mostly done... It sounds a little something like this: This isn't working. You should have done it this way. You should blow this up before it blows up in your face. Yeah, that one. The annoying thing about this voice is that sometimes it is right. Sometimes moving on or changing something in your business IS the right call....
